A rare representation of the rosewood species is the East Indian rosewood from the genus Dalbergia. The East Indian rosewood impresses with its dark brown to violet-brown and purple colouring. As a fine wood, it is often used for expensive furniture and cabinetmaking. It is an exceptionally good wood for turning and is also used by sculptors as a carving wood. The sapwood is white-grey to creamy-yellow with a reddish tinge and is sharply differentiated from the dark purple or purple-brown heartwoodseparated by black stripes. radial shows decorative rays on cut surfaces with uniform and medium coarse texture. Pores large, scattered, growing zones indistinct, straight grained, intensely striped, very decorative.
Usage: It is particularly suitable for veneer production for upmarket interior design.
